High Tea: A Garden Tea-Party

One of my favourite special occasions to plan is a beautiful garden party.  So pretty and feminine, they are popular with many of my ladies and are a lovely way to spend a relaxing afternoon with family, friends, or your favourite group of girls.

A garden tea party is a lovely idea for ladies birthdays, bridal showers, baby showers, outdoor weddings or even for the grown ups to enjoy while a children’s fairy party is going on in the garden.  There is always a reason to move the party out of the house and in to the garden, especially if you live in a beautiful climate like I do – a winter day in Queensland spent in the sun is spectacular!

Garden Tea parties are about simple elegance and a comfortable relaxed feel, so adding some personal touches always enhances the occasion.  If you are a baker, hand-made treats are a lovely way to add a personal touch to the day.  Try pulling out some of your grandmothers old recipes and make some family favourites, or ask your event planner to source a caterer who makes hand-made treats using traditional recipes.

Consider the style of your garden when theming your party.  A shabby chic theme will work best in a cottage or traditional garden, or perhaps have an oriental ‘green tea’ party if you garden is of a modern tropical influence.

Why have an engagement photo shoot?

Back to Belinda Cee Weddings and Events website

I always encourage my engaged couples to consider having an engagement photo shoot done, budget permitting.  If the wedding budget extends to this additional photo shoot, it is a great way to develop a repour and ease with the wedding photographer and in my experience ALWAYS results in better photos on the wedding day.  As they say, practice makes perfect!  If the wedding budget does not stretch to a paid photo shoot, having a friend who is savvy with a camera do a less formal engagement shoot is also a great investment.  It gets you used to being in front of the camera, to posing, and gives you an idea of the way you do and don’t like to be photographed and what is flattering.  In the age of digital photography you’ve really got nothing to lose!

These photo shoots are also a really lovely memento of your engagement.  When you get engaged, your wedding is usually a long time in the future and the photos you take at your wedding miss capturing that really special time when you first make a commitment to each other to spend the rest of your lives together.  It’s really interesting to look back at yourselves as a young engaged couple.  Couples change in the process of getting married, usually they mature … usually.  There is a real innocence and energy when you first get engaged and its so much fun to capture that.

Engagement photos also prove really useful for personalising your engagement party and wedding.  The photos can be used on all of your engagement party stationery (invitations, thank you notes, etc) and are a lovely way to personalise your wedding invitation postage stamps.

When deciding on the type of engagement photo shoot you would like to have, think about a range of options.  While posed shots in the studio or the classic ‘lazing under a tree’ shot are always nice, you may find there are better ways to capture who you are as a couple, particularly as a newly engaged couple.  Talk to your wedding planner about the sorts of photo’s you would like for your wedding and engagement shoots so that they can find the right photographer to deliver what you are wanting.

Below is an example of an engagement shoot I was involved in with up-and-coming Brisbane photographer Jeff Patterson.  To capture the stylish but relaxed nature of the couple, we did the shoot at their home and encouraged them to just interact with each other rather than pose for photos.

Barefoot in comfortable clothes hanging out in the lounge room, in the yard with their horses, stealing moments next to their fabulous pond, the everyday setting helped to bring out the fun, relaxed relationship of this couple and capture that in their engagement shoot.  A great photographer makes all the difference here because they need to recognised great shots out of natural interaction.  An engagement shoot at home also has the advantage of helping the couple be more relaxed and enables you to incorporate some favourite things, like your pets, in the fun.

To add to the relaxed informal feel of this photo shoot, photographs were purposefully taken on a small automatic hand-held camera giving that less formal, less staged feel the couple were looking for.

Photo Shoot with a Difference!

May 22, 2010

Yesterday I had a fabulous day doing an unusual sort of photo shoot. There was no bride or groom to be seen, just the invitations to their engagement party!  This modern couple wanted an urban edge to their invitations so we decided to surprise them with a set of photo’s to fit with their urban theme.  Such a unique addition to your wedding , this is an idea I expect to take off with all our brides.  I love being able to set wedding planning trends!  I hope you enjoy the sneek peek.  Thank you to Eleisha and Steve for letting me share the fabulous results with everyone.

Until next time

It is so rewarding seeing clints visions coming to fruition!

Thankfully we plan each year well in advance and take on only a set number of weddings so we can ensure the highest service for each client.  This forward planning proves very helpful at this time of year!

Reminder to Couples – book now for 2011/2012

May 18, 2010

If you hope to have a romantic April/May wedding be sure to book your wedding planner and venue early.  Many venue’s book weddings two and three years in advance and it can be the same for wedding planners and designers.  An experienced wedding planner can usually get you in to a venue that may not have dates available to the public.  Another reason why employing a planner for your wedding is so beneficial!!!

With so many of our wonderful clients getting married this time of year I hope to have some photo’s to share with you soon.  I absolutely love wedding season!
